When spring comes March(ing) in…

Pixabay @ Pexels.com

Is it weird to have a favorite month (besides October)? I feel like maybe it is, but I don’t care. I love March. I don’t particularly care for the weather it brings, but that’s because I live in Texas. Atmospheric instability is not our friend here. When I lived in areas where tornadoes weren’t a season all of their own, March brought me quite a bit of joy. Seeing the flowers pop up everywhere reminded me that spring was on its way.

Now, I greet the new season with mixed feelings. Spring in Texas means the coming of insane amounts of pollen and severe weather. It also means we’re on our way to summer, and in Texas, that almost always ends up with day after day of temperatures just below face-melting. This knowledge competes with the childhood memories of the happiness spring brought, and honestly, it’s just a very conflicting time.

This particular March, however, brings about my last term/semester at college. I’m excited for the classes, but I am not excited about the homework load. I’ve been spoiled this past year, only being part time. Plus, I’ve taken this past term off, so I went from months of (comparatively speaking) very little homework, to no homework at all, and now I’m about to have double homework.

Not to fear though, I have the chapter 12 of “Don’t Feed the Trolls” already scheduled to post on the 19th, and chapter 13 for April 16th. If all goes well, chapter 14 will be posted on May 14th, but that one is still iffy.

In the meantime, enjoy this month’s mismatch of songs. I tried to include a little bit of everything, and I’ve even thrown in a fun one for St. Patrick’s Day.

Now, I’m off to plan the kids’ annual April Fool’s prank.

August – watch out, you must.

Yeah, I’m not even going to give you any excuses this time. I just plain forgot to post the new chapter. It’s been scheduled to post now though, so I can now make the promise that there will be a new chapter of “Don’t Feed the Trolls” on Thursday. Well, Thursday in the states, anyway. If you’re far enough overseas, it might be Friday for you, but I don’t think I have any readers that far east.

Currently, the plan is to schedule the next two completed chapters for September 30th, and then October 30th, after which, there will be a break in posting because – if all goes well – I’ll be having dental surgery (*dance break*).

Now, from here on out, there’s some good and bad news, both. The bad news is that for my next two classes, I’m going to be swamped. This next class, especially. It’s bad enough that I’m already working on assignments and I’m on my summer break. Every week, it’s basically three full papers. This is the first class I’ve had that is this intensive, so I’m trying to give myself a head start. The next class is a 400 level diversity class, and I’ve already been told that it is also an intensive class. Wish me luck, ya’ll, that’s all I’m saying.

The good news is, I only have four classes left – total. My last class ends in April 2020, and I should be allowed to walk with my graduating class that May. After that, the only thing that will get in the way of my writing should be work – and believe me, work alone is not much of a deterrent for me~

Before you all think that I won’t be writing between now and May, that is not at all what I mean, I promise! I have a two week holiday break this winter, and I’m going to be writing between now and then as much as I can.

So, long story short: new chapter on Thursday, new classes are a headache, surgery (hopefully) in October, and I’m a college graduate as of April/May 2020!

For those of you wondering, by the way: the title is from an old poem I learned when I was a kid about how to remember the hurricane season start and end dates:

June, too soon.
July, stand by.
August, watch out, you must.
September, remember.
October, all over.

[Update] C’est mi vie.

Sorry everyone, I know it’s been a while. I was finishing up my last term as a full-time student, and was having some major issues with the final. I am happy to report, however, that all that is over. I am now a part-time student, and trying to get back into the swing of things.

This past month has been rather interesting, so this is going to be a long post. For the TL;DR people, here you go:

TL;DR: My eyes are stupid. It might be cancer, it might not be. School still sucks, but not as much. New chapter coming soon. Got $5 to spare? Life is [Redacted]. K-pop fandom is a mess right now.

[Holiday Hiatus] I’m still alive!

Sorry everyone, yes, I’m aware it’s been a good couple weeks since I updated anything. Have to be honest here, I was not expecting to be as overwhelmed with the holidays and life as I have been lately.

It’s not even that we’ve had a lot to do, or family and friends coming in (okay, I take that back, we did have a visitor from out of town come in, but that was only one, and he only stayed a couple days). I’ve just been struggling to stay on top of my coursework, and it has not been going well. A big part of it is the children I’ve been taking care of, but I think the bigger part is that I’m just a bit burned out. Between homework, work, my language studies (I’m still struggling with Korean – S-O-V languages kick my ass like you would not believe), my brain is going “ENOUGH!”

So. I am taking a mini-hiatus. Hopefully just until after the new year. I have a two week break starting on Christmas Eve and going until January 7th. I’m hoping to use this time to recharge my brain. I will try to keep you updated in case that changes.

The best intentions…

Alright, so. The past two weeks have been interesting, but not good for writing. You know the old “Kids say the darnedest things”? Yeah, well, one of the munchkins in our household decided that school was the best place to say those darnedest things. Twice. On top of his older sister coming up with the brilliant idea of doing all her Image result for kids say the darndest thingshomework…and then not turning it in to the teachers. How on earth this made sense to her, I have no idea, but last week was spent dealing with all those fun times. I had one sentence written for the next chapter of Don’t Feed The Trolls. Not good, I know. I had planned on making up for it this week, but then the eldest kiddo was sick, and then there was Halloween night…ahh, fun times.

Let me explain something real quick. We have a dog, Dexter. He’s an idiot. I love him, but gods all bless, he. is. an. IDIOT. Wednesday night, my roommate took Dex out for his nightly walk. Not even ten minutes later, I smell skunk. Now, I fully cop to being weird. I love the smell of skunk, so my first reaction was “Yay! Skunk!” and then…”Wait…didn’t B just go out there…with…Dex……oh no.”

Then I heard the cussing. And the sneezing. And the whining. B comes in, still cussing. I looked at him, me: “He didn’t…?” B: “THE HELL HE DIDN’T!” Apparently, Dex decided that the black “kitty” outside looked like it needed a dog nose up its butt. The “kitty”Image result for skunk disagreed. It was too late that night to give him a skunk bath, so we just tossed his kennel in the backyard and he got to spend the night outside. We spent pretty much all day yesterday dealing with the skunk mess, and giving the dog, like six baths (he still smells, but not near as bad).

Honestly, it was kinda fun, but it has definitely pushed back the new chapter of Don’t Feed The Trolls. I’m hard at work it, I promise, but yeah. No update this week (in case you couldn’t tell).

Also: I am not taking part in NaNoWriMo this year (or any, for that matter), but I encourage anyone/everyone to go cheer on those who are.

Cross your fingers and hope really hard that this week is a bit better for writing, yes?

[Announcement] Finals week.

Just a heads up that there will not be an installment of “Don’t Feed the Trolls” this week. My university is online, but we still have finals. The professor for one class has given all of us an extension on the ones due for her class, but that’s not the only class I’m in, and my eye has been blurring more than usual (oh joy), which severely hampers my ability to write. Hopefully next week will be back to normal.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check out my Twitter for your #Batfile prompt, and I’ll be back on Monday with a Story and a Song.

Update: On Zombies and School.

One of these days, I will fall into a regular posting schedule. Maybe. Eventually…you realize I can hear you laughing all the way from here, right?

Right, well, anyway. Some of you may have noticed that only the first five chapters of “Say ‘No!’ to Zombies” are still available. This is because SNtZ has reached a critical stage: querying. Image result for querying

Yup. That’s right. I have officially begun to send my baby out to the scary world of publishers and agents. Currently, I still plan on posting the sequel, “Don’t Feed the Trolls,” to this blog and the associated ArchiveOfOurOwn account, but that may also change. I make no promises on that front, beyond that I will try to keep you all updated. On that note, right now, the best place to go for updates is my Twitter.

Looking forward, you will also be seeing a lot of changes going on around here. A new look, new content, pages reorganized, etc.. It’s part of my coursework this semester, which is good news for you guys, and not so great news for me. I always struggle with what to write here – a common enough struggle, from what I understand – but I like getting good grades, so. Fun times ahead for all of us.

For those of you wondering when I’ll start posting “Don’t Feed the Trolls” chapters, I am aiming for Thursday, September 20th.

Eek!

Okay, so for the followers of “Blood Runs Black”: please don’t hate me, but it’s going on a (hopefully) mini-hiatus.

This past week was Finals, and I haven’t really had a chance to work on anything. I am also in the process of editing “Say ‘No!’ to Zombies” and helping make plans for two different vacations. So yeah, I’ve been just a bit busy. I will try to have a new chapter up soon, but don’t be surprised if there isn’t an update next week either. Just a heads up.

Update on…well, everything?

Okay, so if you’ve been keeping up, you know that I was scheduled for surgery on May 17th, but I was sick, so it got pushed back to June 7th. I was still sick on June 1st, so I called the doctor, and they pushed it back some more, and set me up with a doctor’s appointment to find out why I’m still sick.

I ended up going to Urgent Care instead, and hey guess what? Bronchitis. And pink eye, somehow (still trying to figure out how that happened…) So I am on a shitload of medicine to get rid of it, and hopefully, I will be fully recovered in time for surgery on June 21st.

Oh yeah, and the kids being sick? Well, it spread to the parents, so now we have a household of sick people. And it’s all bronchitis. Yay for us! Ugh.

In other news, I bought a bunch of random stuff that made me happy, and I am so far behind on homework it’s sad. June is being a royal pain in the ass, people. It needs to get its shit together, and soon.

Also, sorry about “Say ‘No’ to Zombies,” but it will be updated on Monday!

A series of disappointments…

It’s been a shitty week.

First, my surgery was pushed back two weeks because of this damn cold I managed to pick up somewhere.

Then, my mom was supposed to come visit, but that fell through. She’s still planning on visiting, but I don’t know when that’s going to happen.

Then the kids both ended up sick, and some news we were expecting never came in. So we’re still waiting on that. I messed up an assignment because of the rigamaroll that was going on with mom’s travel plans, and just. Ugh. It’s been a mess.

Pretty much the only good thing so far was going to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and even that was a bit blah, because really, Marvel? REALLY?! That was a dick move.

Oh yeah, and The Sims: Parenthood. But overall, this week is blah. And I am so done with it. Three weeks of coughing, people. It’s been THREE weeks!

The surgery was postponed til June 7th, but since I am still coughing, I’m not sure what they’re going to do. This is driving me insane. I want it done and over with, dammit!

Ugh, oh yeah, AND I forgot to update “Say ‘No’ to Zombies.” Sorry about that guys. I might update on Saturday, and then on Monday. We’ll have to see. I’m trying to make sure I stay a couple chapters ahead, but I’ve been so busy with school and work and games, I think I might be a little behind.

Oops?
