Weekly Log #2

Part of the “New Year” thing. Kinda, anyway. This is partly in solidarity with @thebibliofeels, but it’s something I need to do, as well.

It’s so easy to tell oneself that, “oh, I didn’t have the time today to write,” when the simple truth is, “There was a movie I wanted to watch, and then I had lunch with my friends, and then I was watching Youtube videos, and lost track of time…” When you start a writing log, and you look back at what actually got in your way, you start realizing that, well…the only thing that was in your way, was you.

I’m no different, but that’s something I’m working on, and this is step one of that: pinpointing the problem. What are the greatest distractions, and how can I cut back on them.

Feel free to chime in when/if you notice something you’re guilty of as well. We can all learn from each other.

Today was a day of distractions, but there wasn’t much I could do about that. There’s construction going on next door to us, and they hit a water pipe going along the back end of the property. Then my mother called and we were discussing graduation travel plans. Then, the kids got home, and it was time to go pick up my replacement phone and something for dinner. I managed to meet my goal for the day though, so I refuse to complain. Also, the beta reader is done with chapter 10. Just have to finish chapter 11 before I post it so I don’t end up doing any backtracking.

Another day of distractions, but we have a new dishwasher, so there’s that. Another section of chapter 11 done. I have plans tomorrow, but I’m going to try to work on finishing the chapter. I really want it done by this weekend so I can post chapter 10…

Woke up feeling like crap. Checked the weather, and found out we were expecting severe weather, with the chance of tornadoes. Decided to just take a “me” day. Sometimes it’s necessary.

Didn’t get a lot of sleep, and woke up to the first snow I’ve seen in years. It didn’t stick, but it was nice to see anyway. Took another “me day” with the promise to myself that I would get back to work on Sunday.

Sunday / 12

I didn’t do any writing today, but that was because I had a project I needed to work on instead. I finished it up, and spent the rest of the day chilling.

I accidentally procrastinated most of the day. And, yes, before you even start, it is possible to accidentally procrastinate. Not at all happy with the way this week is starting. It’s almost 11pm, and I’m giving up for the night. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Well, I remembered to post on Instagram…that counts for something, right? In all seriousness, I did get some work done, but none of it was really writing anything new. It was mostly looking at what I had written so far and going, “Nope. That reads terrible. Delete it, try again.” Then, I had to do some research into what I could remember of physics, and…that was fun. I had to work some today, and had planned on writing afterwards, but both kids had matters that needed to be discussed. It’s almost 11pm now, and once again, I’m having to write the day off as a bust (word count wise). I’m not entirely unhappy, however. The discussions we had, as a family, were important.

End of week review:

Fail, Lose, Failing, Failure, Business, Crisis, Losing

Well, I completely screwed up my goal for this week, and once again, it was all on me. I know part of why I allowed myself to be distracted this week though, so that’s a start. Tomorrow starts a new week, and I’ll just have to push through. It’s going to be rough, the kids are going to be home more than usual, but dammit. I will get this chapter done.

My goal for this coming week is the same as last week: stop letting myself get distracted. And finish Chapter 11.
